Chicago Bears 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting Through Round 3

The Chicago Bears came into the 2021 NFL offseason with a long list of needs and they could use the 2021 NFL Draft to accomplish some of those tasks. The Bears were a playoff team in 2020, but failed to beat the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the playoffs in order to advance.

Chicago’s most obvious need is a quarterback to take the reigns, but they could potentially address that in free agency or via the trade block. The Bears are in an awkward position in the draft where if they don’t trade up they wouldn’t be able to land a top-tier quarterback, but if they don’t it would make more sense to address a different need.

Thankfully, I guess, the Bears have more needs than the quarterback position and could look to address some other needs in the NFL Draft. The Bears could look to beef up their offensive line in one of the deepest offensive line classes we’ve seen in years or add some help to their lackluster receiving unit as well.

The Bears have no shortage of needs and if they make the right picks they could be back in the playoffs in 2021. Let’s take a look at our three-round mock draft for the Bears.

Round One, #20 Overall: Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech

The Bears, in my mock draft, just missed out on quarterback Mac Jones, who was taken a few picks prior by the Washington Football Team and instead of reaching for Kyle Trask, I have them beefing up their offensive line instead. Chicago is going to need to protect their investment in whatever quarterback is taking snaps for the Bears in 2021 and adding Virginia Tech’s Christian Darrisaw is a great way to do that.

Darrisaw is one of the most slept on prospects in the 2021 offensive tackle class and I honestly believe he could make a major impact on the Bears’ offensive line. He has outstanding poise and gets a fast jump off the ball on run plays.

He has the ability to be a franchise corner stone for the Bears and the team should take a deep look into bringing him aboard. The Bears would be able to protect their signal caller’s blind side with this pick.

Round Two, #52 Overall: Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, USC

The Bears could snag a steal in back-to-back rounds with the selection of USC wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. St. Brown is one of the most sure-handed wide receivers in the 2021 NFL Draft class and he could be a second-round steal for a team like Chicago.

St. Brown is intriguing because he can make all the plays you expect your receivers to make, but he has a bit of an awkward stiffness about him that could cause him to drop. When you look at St. Brown compared to Devonta Smith, the route running isn’t as precise, but he could adjust with experience.

Chicago needs to bring in some receiver help to build around whoever the quarterback will be and St. Brown is one of the best in the NFL Draft. Sure, he needs a little bit of work, but I firmly believe at this time next year we’ll be writing about how St. Brown is a key building block for the Bears rather than a draft bust.

Round Three, #84 Overall: Kellen Mond, QB, Texas A&M

If the Bears don’t address the quarterback position in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, they’ll need to draft a guy. If they aren’t able to trade up, they could wait until the third-round of the draft and snag a very capable quarterback in Texas A&M’s Kellen Mond.

Mond, who is a very underrated quarterback prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft class, could be a good option for the Bears to turn to without having to reach in rounds one or two. In 2020, Mond completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 2,282 passing yards and logged a touchdown to interception ratio of 19 to 3. He also ran for four touchdowns on the ground as well.

Chris Simms, who typically knows a thing or two about quarterback rankings, has Mond ranked higher than Justin Fields and Trey lance on his quarterback board in this year’s draft class and Mond certainly has the ability to be a mid-round steal for Chicago. If the Bears tap into Mond’s potential, he could be a great quarterback in the NFL.
