Khalil Mack, Linebacker
Since being acquired from the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 1, linebacker Khalil Mack has been a man on a mission. On Sunday, he became the first player to record a sack and a forced fumble in four straight games since 2005.
Additionally, Mack’s hit on Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston early in the third quarter led to one of Tampa Bay’s three interceptions. Fellow linebacker Danny Trevathan came down with the pick to set up one of the Bears’ six TDs in the contest.
If he wasn’t already, Mack should certainly be in the early conversation for MVP after Sunday’s performance. He has been the definition of an MVP over the first month of the season and has the Bears near the top of the league in several defensive categories.
Right now, Chicago ranks fourth in yards allowed per game (294.5) and second in rushing yards allowed per game (64). Furthermore, the Bears are tied for third in points allowed per game (16.3) and have the second-most takeaways (11).
Mack has been a real difference maker not just for the Bears, but the Raiders as well. Oakland would likely be better than 1-3 if it still had him terrorizing opposing offenses.
