Chicago Bears: 3 Realistic Trades to Make Before Week 1

Alvin Dupree Could Benefit from Working with Fangio

Okay, tell me if you’ve heard this before — the Chicago Bears are in deep need of a pass rusher. I’m not sure I’ve said it enough to get the point across.

Alvin Dupree is someone who at least hasn’t had injury trouble. His development, however, hasn’t gone as quick enough for head coach Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ liking. His sack totals went up every season, but it’s been from 4 in 2015 to 6 in 2017.

Dupree can still show the abilities that convinced the Steelers to take him in the first round (22nd overall pick) of the 2015 NFL Draft. The Steelers picked up his fifth-year option, but that only guarantees his salary in case of injury. They still aren’t convinced Dupree is a part of their future. If that’s the case, a deal can be made.

I think Dupree would flourish under Fangio. Fangio does a great job of putting his players in a position to succeed. He gets the most out of his players’ talents. He’d do the same with Dupree.

One of the things all these players I mentioned in trade possibilities is their athleticism and versatility. Fangio likes to move players around and while his base defense is a 3-4, he uses a lot of 4-3 as well. These players can play the 3-4 outside linebacker and the 4-3 defensive end. Being able to mask his scheme and have versatile players makes the defense better.

Note: I didn’t mention a trade for Khalil Mack. That is a dream trade. Having arguably the best defensive player in the NFL available in a trade is something that usually doesn’t happen. I know the fans would love this, but that deal is a doozy. These other trades are more of a reality. If a Mack trade happens, that’s a dream come true.
