The Chicago Bears obviously need to get their quarterback situation sorted out heading into 2024. Will they keep Justin Fields? Will they trade Fields and take Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick?
But you know what else the Bears need to do? Acquire some weapons for whoever will be under center next season.
That’s not to say Chicago doesn’t have any good pass-catchers. It does.
After all, wide receiver D.J. Moore is coming off of a terrific 2023 campaign, and tight end Cole Kmet has shown plenty of promise.
But outside of those two, there is no doubt that the Bears are thin in their aerial attack.
That’s why Chicago—which boasts plenty of cap room—will likely be active in searching for receivers in free agency this offseason, and Garrett Podell of CBS Sports sees a very interesting option for the club.
Marquise Brown.
A few seasons ago, Brown looked like an ascending wide out who was about to break into stardom. During his final season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2019, Brown hauled in 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns.
However, that ensuing offseason, Brown asked for a trade and was dealt to the Arizona Cardinals. Since then, Brown’s production has fallen significantly, with the University of Oklahoma product most recently catching just 51 passes for 574 yards and four scores in 14 games this past year.
To be fair to Brown, he battled injuries in 2023, and he spent much of the season with Josh Dobbs at signal-caller.
Brown is still just 26 years old, and he definitely has game-breaking ability. He has great speed, and if the Bears can pair him with Moore, they would have a pretty lethal duo of receivers.
We’ll see if Chicago takes a flier on Brown in the coming weeks. It could pay dividends.
