Chicago Bears: 4 Positives from the Week 1 Loss to Green Bay Packers

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

As the season progresses this will be a very good offense

At the start of the game, everything that could go right for the Bears did so. On the opening drive, they marched 86 yards for a touchdown. Then on the second drive, they went 65 yards and ended up with a field goal. Early in the second quarter the Chicago Bears owned a 10-0 lead.

The offense looked as good as any high-powered offense. Nagy showed different looks. He opened up with a three-man backfield, and he moved tackle Charles Leno first to the right side, then over as a flanker. Green Bay looked dazed and confused. Trubisky looked great, going 8-for-9 for 104 yards on just the first two drives.

With the weapons added to the offense this offseason, this was a dynamic and fun offense to watch. There were a number of options Trubisky could go to, and Howard and Cohen were effective coming out of the backfield. Trubisky completed passes to eight different receivers.

Of course, we saw what happened next. Suddenly the yards gained were smaller and the first downs fewer. I think Nagy got too pass-happy and put too much on Trubisky. There is a lot going on in this offense and having more running plays, especially when the running backs are effective. Also, it was unusual seeing more passes going Dion Sims‘ way than to Trey Burton.

There are still some kinks to work out, but once they are this will be a very fun offense to watch. The Chicago Bears are officially in the 21st century offensively.
