Bears: Stealing one player from each NFC North rival

Harrison Smith, Minnesota Vikings

Bears fans surely want a long-term solution at the safety position, but it may just not be time for one yet. Tashaun Gipson isn’t likely a long-term solution either, but as short-term guys go, you couldn’t get much better than Harrison Smith.

Smith is owed north of $10 million next season, and carries no dead money if the Vikings move on. As it stands today, it’s too difficult to predict if it will happen. If Minnesota asks Smith to take a pay cut though, he may refuse. If he does, well, we’ve seen how these things go.

Imagine an extra motivated Smith lining up with Eddie Jackson in the Bears’ secondary, facing the Minnesota Vikings twice? Oh, boy. That could take Chicago’s defense to another level and considering it’s already quite effective, that’s intriguing to consider.
