Desmond King, Los Angeles Chargers
The Chiefs cornerback position was light going into the 2020 season, and as of now, the front office hasn’t done much to improve on it.
Insert Desmond King, whose role with the Los Angeles Chargers could be in jeopardy with the signing of Chris Harris Jr. King, who thrives normally as a slot cornerback, is coming off a down year where he had zero interceptions, and is entering a contract year. While it makes sense for the Chargers to keep King for depth purposes, he’s a talented defensive player that could be used to bring in help elsewhere.
King has been tied to trade rumors, especially with the Vikings. But the Chiefs should at least consider looking at King. Kansas City brought back Bashaud Breeland on a one-year deal and should be the No. 1 cornerback, however he is facing a possible suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The Chiefs also saw improvements from Charvarius Ward and Rashad Fenton at the position last season, but King is a proven talent. The asking price for him is lower now than it was before and the Chiefs would be smart to inquire.
In addition, the slot corner position is currently vacant in Kansas City, with Kendall Fuller signing with Washington this offseason. King was ranked as the top slot cornerback in 2018 and while he has fallen off the last couple of years, he could be a great replacement.
With the Chargers already having Harris Jr and Casey Hayward, King looks like the odd-man out in L.A. but could be the guy in Kansas City.
