Chiefs Get Huge Injury Update On Key Piece Ahead Of Week 14

The Kansas City Chiefs made a big move ahead of the trade deadline in November, acquiring wide receiver Kadarius Toney from the New York Giants. While wide receiver wasn’t a pressing need at the time, it is a position that could see a lot of change this upcoming offseason with multiple players heading toward free agency. Looking to avoid being left short-handed, acquiring Toney was a shrewd move.

The 2021 first-round pick quickly fell out of favor with the new regime in New York as he had been on the trade block for months. Unable to stay healthy and get on the field, many people were surprised that the Giants were able to get a third and fifth-round pick in exchange for him.

Toney certainly didn’t help himself when he insinuated that the hamstring injury that had kept him sidelined with the Giants was a ruse so that he could get traded. While he deleted the tweet, karma seems to have hit Toney after that as he suffered another hamstring injury in his third game with the Chiefs in Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That has caused him to miss the following two games, but Kansas City received a positive update on his injury status this week. During a press conference, head coach Andy Reid revealed that Toney is expected to be back at practice on Wednesday.

While this is certainly a step in the right direction, it certainly is far from guaranteed that he will be ready to get on the field for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. When he was attempting to return to the field for the Giants, he injured his other hamstring, which sent him right back to the sidelines.

It did not take long for him to show the impact he could have in this offense. He caught six passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in his first two games before going down with an injury. With Mecole Hardman sidelined, Toney could assume a big role in the offense again once he is healthy enough to return.
