Chiefs have explored trade for Colts’ RB Marlon Mack

The Kansas City Chiefs have a need at the running back position following the injury suffered by Clyde Edwards-Helaire. While he may only miss a few weeks, the Chiefs are already looking for a new running back. Enter Indianapolis Colts veteran back Marlon Mack, who has requested a trade from his current situation.

According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Chiefs have explored the idea of trading for Mack.

This would be a very interesting trade pairing for Mack. Indianapolis and Kansas City are both in the AFC and could end up competing against each other at some point this season. Should the Colts trade Mack to KC, they would be beefing up a team that they might have to compete against.

Mack requested a trade from the Colts a couple of weeks ago. He simply wants a larger role with a different team than what Indianapolis can offer him, and the Chiefs could be that team. The Colts have a budding star in the backfield in Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines has turned into an elite third-down running back.

So far this season, Mack has played sparingly. He has still carried the football 20 times for 85 yards and has also caught two passes for eight yards. Not too long ago, Mack looked like a rising star himself with the Colts.

Back during the 2019 season with the Colts, he racked up 1,091 rushing yards to go along with eight touchdowns on 247 carries. Those numbers average out to an impressive 4.4 yards per carry. During that year, Mack also caught 14 passes for 82 yards.

Should the Chiefs make a move for Mack, he would immediately become an impact player in their offense. When Edwards-Helaire returns, Mack would return to a similar role to the one he has now with the Colts. However, he would be on a team that gives him a better chance to compete for a Super Bowl.

Expect to continue hearing more rumors surrounding both the Chiefs and Colts. Marlon Mack seems likely to move at some point in the coming weeks, and this could be a situation to monitor closely.
