Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Gets Brutally Honest On Villain Role

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have been doing a whole lot of winning in recent years, and when you constantly win, being hated comes with the territory.

Mahomes and the Chiefs are experiencing that firsthand this week, as they were largely booed by those in attendance in Las Vegas at Super Bowl Opening Night.

Now, of course, there could be a lot of Raiders fans there, which could explain some of the jeering, but there is no question that there are also a lot of fans who have grown tired of seeing Kansas City win.

Or perhaps they have become fatigued with the Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift subplot.

Whatever the case may be, the Chiefs have clearly taken on a villainous role, and Mahomes doesn’t seem to mind as long as it continues to be paired with success.

“Not necessarily. I think I just like winning,’’ Mahomes said when asked if he cares about being cast as the villain, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “If you win a lot and that causes you to be a villain, then I’m okay with it. But at the end of the day, I’m going to enjoy playing the game and try to win as much as possible.’’

Oddly enough, Kansas City is the underdog heading into its matchup with the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, and it was also the underdog when it battled the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game late last month.

The Chiefs had a rather up and down regular season, starting off 6-1 and then going just 3-5 over their next eight games. They did win their last two contests to finish 11-6 and capture their eighth straight AFC West division title, but it seemed rather apparent that something was not quite right with the club.

Nevertheless, Kansas City has appeared to right the ship in the playoffs and will now be playing in its fourth Super Bowl in the last five years.

We’ll see if Patrick Mahomes can add a third championship ring to his display case.
