Chris Harris Jr. is projected to sign with the Texans in free agency

The Houston Texans were looking like a good bet to knock off the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round of the playoffs this year until a major collapse occurred. Patrick Mahomes constantly shredded their defense and the Texans ended up losing their season in heartbreaking fashion.

While the loss was a rough one, it showed major promise for the future. Houston is just a piece or two away from competing for a playoff spot.

Pro Football Focus seems to have the answer for the Texans’ secondary. They are projecting Houston to sign Denver Broncos’ star impending free agent cornerback Chris Harris Jr.

The Houston Texans are a team in need of cornerback help in the slot and potentially willing to pay for the veteran’s services to contend. Among all 32 teams in 2019, the Texans were 32nd in slot coverage grade, where they surrendered a 122.4 passer rating. That is no bueno.

Harris is coming off of a solid season with the Broncos in 2019. He recorded 56 total tackles to go along with a forced fumble, an interception, and six defended passes. The numbers weren’t as big as many have come to expect, but he was still solid enough to make a team like the Texans go after him.

Back in 2018, he racked up three interceptions and 10 defended passes.

Houston is in major need of a lockdown cornerback. Harris would be able to come in and be that guy for them. He won’t come cheap, but the price would be well worth it for the Texans.

All of that being said, the Texans are not going to be the only team with major interest in signing Harris. His name will be linked to quite a few teams when free agency opens up. Houston will have to be very aggressive in their pursuit of him if they want to get him signed.
