Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones is slated to become a free agent next month, and given the Chiefs’ financial constraints, they not be able to re-sign him.

As a result, Jones may very well be playing in his final game with Kansas City when he takes the field for the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, and he spoke about the possibility this week.

“I know there’s a possibility this could be my last game with the Chiefs. You just take it all in,” Jones said, via Brian Costello of The New York Post. “I’ll let the offseason do its thing. I don’t really focus on it. I’m not too worried about it. After everything is settled and the dust clears, we’ll see where we’re at.”

Jones added that he is just “living in the moment” and isn’t trying to think too hard about what the future holds.

The 29-year-old sat out Week 1 due to a contract dispute with the Chiefs, but ultimately agreed to a one-year deal with the club.

Now, the two sides will have to do the same song and dance again this offseason, but this time, Jones may end up walking altogether.

Jones registered 30 tackles, 10.5 sacks and four passes defended this season, en route to his fifth straight Pro Bowl appearance and second consecutive First-Team All-Pro selection.

The Mississippi State product was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He has since become a fixture along the Chiefs’ defensive front and has been a big reason why Kansas City now has one of the league’s best defenses.

Chris Jones has racked up 15.5 sacks on two different occasions in his career, most recently doing so in 2022.
