Christian Kirksey reveals why he’s so excited to join the Packers

Christian Kirksey was one of the few free agency additions that the Green Bay Packers made this offseason and has flown under the radar for the most part. While he may be forgotten mostly by the national media, the coaching staff in Green Bay could not be more excited to get him on the field.

In a Zoom media appearance on Wednesday, Kirksey opened up a bit about signing with the Packers. He also revealed why he is so excited to join the Packers.

Having a chance to compete for a Super Bowl is always an exciting opportunity for a player. Coming from the Cleveland Browns, it is even more exciting. Kirksey will not only have a chance to compete for a championship, he will be a big part of the hunt.

Over the past two years with the Browns, Kirksey has struggled to stay on the field. Injuries have really hampered his ability and have derailed his career a bit. He is hoping that a change of scenery to Green Bay will help.

Back in 2017 season with the Browns, the last year he was fully healthy, Kirksey put up massive numbers. He totaled 138 tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and five defended passes. Those numbers give the Packers a reason to be excited.

In 2018, Kirksey played in just seven games, but showed off his ability to drop into coverage with two interceptions and five defended passes.

Green Bay has needed a playmaker at inside linebacker for quite some time. The Packers desperately needed speed last season at the position. Kirksey can absolutely offer that.

While he may not be talked about as a big offseason addition, Kirksey could very well turn out to be a massive steal assuming he stays healthy.
