Christian Kirksey speaks out after signing with the Green Bay Packers

Following his release from the Cleveland Browns, linebacker Christian Kirksey took a bit of a free agency tour prior to the NFL shutting down visit due to fears surrounding the coronavirus. With the free agency negotiating window opening on Monday, Kirksey didn’t take long to make his decision. He chose to sign with the Green Bay Packers.

Green Bay was aggressively looking for a linebacker upgrade this offseason. Blake Martinez wasn’t athletic enough for them to re-sign. Kirksey is definitely an upgrade if he can stay healthy.

Kirksey has spoken out for the first time since signing with the Packers and it is clear that he is excited to be with his new team.

Kirksey is an extremely talented player who could end up being a steal for the Packers. His health has been the primary concern for him so far in the NFL.

Last season with the Browns, Kirksey only ended up playing in two games. In 2018, he was only able to play in seven games. The 2017 season was the last time Kirksey was able to play in all 16 games.

During the 2017 season, Kirksey racked up 138 total tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and five defended passes. He is much more athletic than Martinez and has history with defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

Green Bay has to be feeling good about their first day of free agency. They didn’t spend huge money and brought in a starting linebacker and a starting offensive tackle in Rick Wagner to replace Bryan Bulaga.

Expect to see Kirksey come in and put a lot of work into being ready for the 2020 season. He wants to prove the Packers right for believing in him and should become a fan favorite very quickly he can stay healthy.
