Deshaun Watson led the Clemson Tigers to a National Championship during the 2016 college football season, which firmly cemented him as the greatest quarterback in program history. However, Trevor Lawrence could steal that title with a successful season in 2020.
Lawrence led the Tigers to a 15-0 record and a National Championship during the 2018 season. The team steamrolled the Alabama Crimson Tide 44-16 on its way to its third National Championship. Lawrence threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns in the title game.
After winning the championship, expectations for Lawrence and Clemson rose dramatically. One of the best quarterback prospects since Andrew Luck, analysts and fans hold Lawrence in high regard. With the superstar quarterback entering his third and possibly final collegiate season, everyone wonders how high Lawrence can climb.
Clemson set its 2020 schedule up so the only potential threat during the regular season is Notre Dame. If everything goes as planned, the Tigers should enter the College Football Playoffs with another undefeated record.
However, if Clemson wants to get that far, the program must continue receiving high-level production from Lawrence and its other stars. While he might not sweep the end of season awards, Lawrence should still produce the best year of his collegiate career in 2020.
