1. No Slow Start To The Season
The Clemson Tigers looked a little sluggish at the start of the 2019 season. In particular, Lawrence got off to a bad start. While the Tigers obliterated Georgia Tech in their season opener, Lawrence completed fewer than 60% of his pass attempts and threw two interceptions.
Clemson continued winning games, but Lawrence struggled through the first three weeks of the season. During that time, he completed 59 of his 97 pass attempts (57.23%) for 831 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also only ran for 55 yards in those three games.
Clemson also came close to losing their fifth game when North Carolina held the Tigers to 21 points. After the close call, Clemson stabilized and thumped every team remaining on their schedule.
Lawrence got off to a slow start in his first year as Clemson’s full-time starter. He won’t suffer the same experience in 2020. While the Tigers remain favorites to make the College Football Playoffs, the team lost a ton of talent to the NFL over the past two years. Lawrence needs to bring A game from the opening snap.
Clemson’s schedule for the 2020 season isn’t dramatically more difficult than last year’s, but the team faces mounting pressure to win another title. Everything needs to fire at full power from Week 1 through the National Championship, and Lawrence is ready to deliver another undefeated run.
