Cleveland Browns GM Gives Massive Deshaun Watson Injury Update

Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns had a very successful 2023 season, going 11-6 and earning a Wild Card spot. But, expectations are even higher in 2024, especially if they can keep quarterback Deshaun Watson healthy.

It was a bit surprising seeing how successful the Cleveland Browns were last season given the quarterback injuries they dealt with. Deshaun Watson was one of five different players who started for the team.

He played in only six games, while Joe Flacco started the next most with five. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson started three, P.J. Walker started twice and Jeff Driskel started once.

The most success was found with Deshaun Watson under center, as the team went 5-1. His production was shaky at times, but that was expected from a quarterback who was still shaking off some of the rust from sitting out a season and being suspended for 11 games.

Last season, he dealt with a multitude of injuries. What knocked him out for the remainder of the season was a shoulder injury that required surgery in November.

This offseason, one of the big storylines for the team is his health. For them to reach the heights they believe possible, Deshaun Watson needs to be healthy and in the lineup.

So far so good this offseason. Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Barry provided an update on the rehab of the team’s franchise quarterback, sharing that he is well ahead of schedule with his rehab.

“We’re excited as he gets in to training camp and we get the pads on,” Berry said. “But he’s making excellent progress. Honestly, if you didn’t know he got hurt last year, you wouldn’t really be able to tell the difference. We’re very excited once camp starts.”

Deshaun Watson has yet to be cleared for full contact but was making progress during the offseason program. He participated in 7-on-7 drills during mandatory minicamp, as he gets closer to being a full participant.

2024 will be a big season for the Cleveland Browns and Watson. Some major changes were made, all in hopes of leading their quarterback to a bounce-back season.

Ken Dorsey is taking over as offensive coordinator and the team acquired Jerry Jeudy from the Denver Broncos in a trade. There is optimism that both additions will help him regain the form he showed earlier in his career with the Houston Texans.

In 2023, Deshaun Watson completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,115 yards and seven touchdowns with four interceptions. He added 26 rushes for 142 yards and one more score over six games.
