The San Francisco 49ers are in a tricky situation with Brandon Aiyuk.
They’re not eager to meet his high salary demands, yet they’re reluctant to let him go to another team.
The 49ers have rejected several substantial offers for their star wide receiver, causing some teams to drop out of the race.
While the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots have stepped back, the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers are still in the hunt.
The Steelers remain interested but are looking for a fair deal. Sports commentator Mike Golic suggests that Aiyuk should consider the team’s offensive strategy before deciding on a move.
Golic believes the Browns would be a better fit for Aiyuk due to their offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski’s tendency to favor passing, in contrast to the Steelers’ more run-heavy approach under Arthur Smith.
“To me it seems like Cleveland would be the better option from a team standpoint & an offensive standpoint.”
On paper, the Cleveland Browns seem like a better match for Aiyuk, but it’s uncertain if they’re willing to meet his salary demands, rumored to be over $30 million annually, plus the trade costs.
Additionally, the Browns already have a leading wide receiver in Amari Cooper. However, their reluctance to commit to Cooper long-term might indicate they’re open to new options.
Ultimately, the 49ers need to find a middle ground and accept a reasonable offer for Brandon Aiyuk. If not, he’s likely to stay put.
