Cleveland Browns sign star free agent tight end Austin Hooper

Austin Hooper was one of the most coveted free agents available this offseason, but he has already decided where he will play the next chapter of his career. After rumors of potentially joining the Green Bay Packers, Hooper has agreed to terms with the Cleveland Browns.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Browns are signing Hooper and the two sides have agreed on contract details.

Hooper is a massive addition for the Browns. Under new head coach Kevin Stefanski, he is going to have a huge role in the offense. This move also helps franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield in a huge way.

Last season with the Atlanta Falcons, Hooper caught 75 passes for 787 yards and six touchdowns. He put those numbers up in just 13 games played.

At 6-foot-4 and just over 250 pounds, Hooper has elite speed for his position. Cleveland is getting a legitimate star to play alongside Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. If this offense plays up to its potential, they will be nearly impossible to stop.

It will be interesting to see how this impacts the plans of teams like the Packers, Chicago Bears, and New England Patriots at the tight end position. Hooper to the Browns is a bit of a surprise.
