The Indianapolis Colts are looking to make a run this season and geared up for those efforts by signing former Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Coming off a disappointing 2019 season for both Rivers and the Colts, they will each aim to bounce back in a major way.
Last season, the Colts came into the year as possible Super Bowl contenders. However, everything changed when Andrew Luck announced he was retiring. While Jacoby Brissett was a serviceable quarterback, he didn’t provide enough impact. Indianapolis believed they really were just a quarterback bay from contention, prompting the signing of Rivers.
While Rivers struggled last season, much of that was due to the Chargers’ poor offensive line play. Rivers is one of the least mobile quarterbacks in the NFL. He needs time to throw and the Chargers just couldn’t do that for him. However, the Colts have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.
The Colts also have a good amount of weapons for Rivers to throw to between T.Y. Hilton as the No. 1 receiver with his precise route-running, deep-threat ability, and habit of making big plays. There is also Jack Doyle, Parris Campbell, Michael Pittman Jr. in the group as complementary options.
The beauty of the Colts’ offense is they do not need Rivers to carry the offense. They have a strong running game led by a backfield duo of Marlon. Mack and Jonathan Taylor that can set the tone.
While these may sound aggressive, here are two massive bold predictions for QB Philip Rivers in 2020.
