Philip Rivers Breaks Single-Season Passing Yards Record
Remember how I said Philip Rivers struggled last season because of his offensive line? Well, he still led the AFC in passing yards and has thrown for over 4,000 yards for seven straight seasons. Now, he will be leading the Indianapolis Colts’ offense, which features an elite offensive line.
In fact, throughout his 14-year career as a starter, Rivers has been held under 4,000 passing yards only three times. Although the Indianapolis Colts don’t need Rivers to sling the ball around the field, it’s highly unlikely the veteran gunslinger changes his mentality this season. The number to beat to break the franchise passing record is 4,761.
Many critics have stated that Rivers may be done after a disappointing 2019 campaign that featured him almost being benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor. Although he may not admit it, Rivers will be out to prove those doubters wrong. Obviously, this is a very bold statement, but it is possible that Rivers passes that number.
When defenders play the run, the play-action will be available. Rivers can find one of his talented receivers deep down the field. While it may be his final season, this year could be one of his best.
