Philip Rivers was one of the top names entering NFL free agency this offseason. With so many quarterbacks changing teams, Rivers was rumored to land with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, and the Indianapolis Colts. When everything was said and done, Rivers agreed to a one-year, $25 million deal with the Colts.
Making the move to sign Rivers shows that the Colts are going into win-now mode. They are still keeping their future options open, but Jim Irsay and Chris Ballard want to compete for a Super Bowl.
Last season, the Colts saw Jacoby Brissett struggle to cement himself as the long-term starter. Rivers, on the other hand, had a rough season with the Los Angeles Chargers and needed a change of scenery.
Rivers ended up completing 66 percent of his pass attempts for 4,615 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. The interception total is a bit concerning, but his offensive line was bad. Indianapolis can offer him a lot more protection.
All of that being said, let’s take a look at three numbers Rivers should be targeting in 2020 with the Colts.
