Colts: 3 potential breakout stars for Indianapolis in 2020

Jeff Hanisch – USA Today Sports

Jonathan Taylor

Out of every young player drafted in the Ballard regime, Jonathan Taylor might hold the largest potential out of all of them.

He was one of the most prolific college running backs from 2017-2019 with Wisconsin. He completed his college career with the 6th-most rushing yards in NCAA history and became the first player to rush for over 6,000 yards in only 3 seasons (6,174).

Taylor was a two-time Doak Walker award winner, two-time unanimous first-team All-American, two-time Big Ten running back of the year, and a three-time consensus first-team All-Big Ten selection.

Taylor is going into the NFL ready to run behind the league’s best offensive line (a unit bringing back all five 2019 starters).

While he’ll begin the season splitting reps with Marlon Mack, putting together a solid first few games could give him the starting job for the remainder of the season.

What stands out with the Wisconsin rookie is his freak-like physical abilities. His FBS grade given by Pro Football Focus was the second-highest from 2017-2019. His 6.7 yards per carry and 4.2 yards after contact lauds him as one of the top candidates for Offensive Rookie of the Year award heading into the 2020.

Taylor will do nothing but bring a huge boost to the offense as he enters into a ground game that is already one of the most dangerous in the NFL.

He could not only take over the starting job and win OROTY but could also make a push towards the top of the entire NFL.
