Colts coach speaks praise about rookie QB Jacob Eason

Jacob Eason was one of the more intriguing quarterbacks available outside of the elite echelon in the 2020 NFL Draft. While the Indianapolis Colts didn’t necessarily need to draft a quarterback, they were happy to snag Eason with the No. 122 overall pick in the fourth round.

While the NFL offseason has been strange, to say the least, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Eason has still made a very good early impression. The team’s quarterback’s coach, Marcus Brady, praised the rookie in a recent quote.

“Overall he’s been great. You know, I’ve been on Zoom with him — a lot of calls spending time with him installing the offense with him — and he’s done a great job. I mean, he’s worked hard, he’s asked a lot of questions and he’s picking up the offense.”

There is no question that the Colts were an ideal landing spot for Eason. The former Washington Huskies quarterback was not ready to play immediately. He will have a chance to sit behind Philip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett and learn the NFL game from the sideline.

During the 2019 season with the Huskies, Eason completed 64.2 percent of his pass attempts for 3,132 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. They aren’t elite numbers, but they certainly aren’t bad either.

Indianapolis has a great project to work on in Eason. He could very well be their long-term franchise quarterback in the future. However, there is a lot of work to be done before that becomes the case.

All of that being said, this is a very good sign for the Colts. Eason seems to be picking things up quickly and learning the offense. When the coaching staff is praising a rookie, it is always a good sign.
