The Indianapolis Colts have a lot of tasks on their to-do list this off-season. They have to find a new head coach and after that, the staff and front office have to get to work identifying who they want as the long-term answer at the quarterback position.

Since Andrew Luck’s surprise retirement ahead of the 2019 season, the Colts have been unable to find any continuity at the quarterback position. 2023 is likely going to be the eighth season in a row they have a different quarterback under center in Week 1.

Will they opt to select one of the top prospects at the position in the 2023 NFL Draft, in which they own the No. 4 pick? Or will they go the veteran route again, hoping to quickly turn things around and get back into the playoff picture?

Whatever they opt to do, the Colts need to also upgrade the weapons around their quarterback on offense. The passing offense is currently lacking reliable weapons beyond Michael Pittman Jr.

Alec Pierce showed some flashes as a rookie and Parris Campbell was healthy for the first time in his career, but bringing in another established talent wouldn’t hurt. One prime target for them in free agency could be Allen Lazard.

Lazard had a career season in 2022 as his role grew exponentially with the Green Bay Packers. With Davante Adams traded to the Las Vegas Raiders and Marquez Valdes-Scantling signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, there was a huge void atop the Packers’ pecking order for targets.

Lazard filled it valiantly, catching 60 passes for 788 yards and six touchdowns. He sounds like a player that knows he is moving on this offseason and Indianapolis would be a nice landing spot for him.

With the Colts, Lazard could continue flourishing as a pass catcher as the No. 2 option behind Pittman. His physicality and elite blocking in the run game are also perfect for an Indianapolis team that wants to establish the ground game with Jonathan Taylor.

Lazard would elevate the offense in that regard, giving the team another blocker while also improving the pass-catching supporting cast. The Colts need to add some weapons offensively and Lazarad would be a perfect fit.
