The Washington Commanders snapped the Baltimore Ravens 24-game preseason winning streak on Monday night, winning 29-28. However, it wasn’t all positive for the Commanders, as the franchise collectively held their breath about an injury.

Star wider receiver Terry McLaurin suffered a sprained toe in the second quarter of the game, which ended his night early. He underwent an X-ray at the stadium, which came back negative. That was good first news, as he was set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Luckily for McLaurin and the Commanders, the MRI came back clean. There is no major damage to his toe, per sources who spoke to ESPN. That has led the team to feel optimistic that he will be in the lineup on September 10 when they open the regular season against the Arizona Cardinals.

Following the game on Monday night, the Commanders’ head coach Ron Rivera said that McLaurin would be considered day-to-day. He would receive treatment and they would take it from there.

McLaurin and the Commanders’ starters were in the game late into the first half, which is when the injury occurred. There was 1:17 left before halftime when he injured his toe after a 13-yard completion.

Not having McLaurin in the lineup would have been a huge blow to the Commanders’ passing attack. He has turned into one of the most consistent receivers in the NFL, going over the 1,000-yard plateau in three straight seasons and recording at least 918 receiving yards in each season of his career.

With Sam Howell taking over as the starting quarterback, having all of the team’s weapons at his disposal in Week 1 is important. Should McLaurin be hampered in any capacity, the Commanders will lean on Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel and tight end Logan Thomas through the air.
