Could Cowboys Trade Amari Cooper To Chiefs During Offseason?

The Kansas City Chiefs hosted the AFC Championship for the fourth consecutive year and for the first time in three years, they will not be taking part in the Super Bowl. Kansas City blew an 18-point lead at Arrowhead Stadium to the Cincinnati Bengals, who will be taking on the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 56 at SoFi Stadium. Over the last few years, the Chiefs have always looked to add more offensive firepower, but could they do that again in the offseason by trading for Dallas Cowboys star wideout Amari Cooper?

It was quite a meltdown by the Chiefs, who opted against kicking a field goal at the end of the first half to try scoring a touchdown at the buzzer. That gave the Bengals some life and they rode that momentum to an overtime victory.

If the Chiefs were going to suffer an upset like that one, many would assume that it would have been some miscues defensively or on special teams. No one would have guessed that the loss would be from the offense falling flat on their face in the second half.

For the second time this season, Patrick Mahomes and the offense were shut down after halftime by a hungry Bengals team. It seemed even more unlikely that would happen with the ease Kansas City moved the ball in the first half.

With their offseason beginning a few weeks earlier than they had thought it would, it is time for the front office to begin evaluating the roster. The Chiefs are in the middle of the league when it comes to salary cap space, but a few moves could open up significant money.

This is a strong roster overall, but if there is one thing they are truly lacking, it is a No. 2 wide receiver. Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are both elite, but beyond those two, there isn’t much to consistently count on.

They made do with Mecole Hardman, Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle, as they flashed at times. But, if they could get a legitimate second option at wide receiver, an already scary offense would become nightmarish.

Could Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper be someone the Chiefs target? Some around the Dallas Cowboys have suggested that Cooper could be on the move this offseason. If that is true, Kansas City should get in on the bidding.

Still only 27-years old, Cooper has a $22 million cap hit for 2022, but he would help bring this offense to another level. Deciding if you want to send extra attention to Hill, Kelce or Cooper would present opposing defenses with weekly headaches. Adding another top-end pass catcher this offseason would lead to some video games on easy-type stats.

Would the Chiefs be willing to part with a first-round pick to land Cooper? That isn’t a very steep price, as a team in win-now mode could be looking to trade back from their position anyway. There isn’t a player they would select that late in the first round that would have as big of an impact on the team as Cooper would in 2022.
