The Chicago Bears are under new management this offseason with Ryan Poles taking over as general manager and Matt Eberflus being hired as head coach. Those two will be tasked with getting the franchise back on track after Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy were let go from their positions of general manager and head coach.

The first order of business for those two is to figure out what they want to do with the quarterback position. Oftentimes when a new regime comes in, they want to bring their own guy along with them for the position. However, the Bears traded up in the 2021 NFL Draft, with the New York Giants, to select Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields in the first round.

Fields had an up-and-down rookie season, but some of that can be attributed to a lack of creativity in the offense he was running and the weapons around him. It was a very vanilla offense that didn’t play to his strengths and Darnell Mooney was the only wide receiver he developed real chemistry with.

It would be a surprise if Poles and Eberflus took these jobs not liking what they saw from Fields, but we have seen teams change course in a year before. It would not be out of the realm of possibilities that they would move on from Fields if the opportunity presented itself.

There are a few veteran quarterbacks that could be available this offseason should the Bears want to make a move. Could they make a deal with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire veteran Russell Wilson?

Over at Bleacher Report, a piece was put together of trades that would reshape the league in 2022. Wilson landing in The Windy City was one of them.

It would be a massive trade, as the rebuild would be on in Seattle. They are not as far away from being playoff contenders again, as they have some pieces to build around and this haul would help them fill numerous holes. The Seahawks would acquire Roquan Smith, Fields, the No. 39 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, a 2023 first-round pick and a 2023 second-round pick.

That would be a huge haul for Seattle, but it is fair to wonder if that would be enough for them to part ways with their franchise quarterback. Pace reportedly offered three first-round picks, a third-round pick and two starters for Wilson last year but was declined.

As for the Bears, they would get the franchise quarterback they have been seeking. But, is it worth gutting the roster to this extent? Wilson is certainly an upgrade, but how much more winning would they do surrendering so many assets that could have been used to upgrade the other holes on the roster?

Given the current state of the franchise, it would likely make more sense for the Bears to see what they have in Fields and give him a chance to develop. If he doesn’t show signs of improvement, then Poles and Eberflus can begin looking for other players next offseason.
