Could The Broncos Pull Off A Trade For Vikings’ Kirk Cousins?

The Denver Broncos are entering the NFL offseason with a need once again at the quarterback position. While a ton of rumors will have them pursuing Aaron Rodgers, there is another NFC North quarterback that would be much more attainable. That quarterback would be Minnesota Vikings’ starter Kirk Cousins.

Granted, making a trade to acquire Cousins does not come with the kind of “bang” that trading for Rodgers would. But, Cousins is a very good quarterback and would be a major upgrade over both Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater.

During the 2021 NFL season, Cousins ended up completing 66.3 percent of his pass attempts for 4,221 yards, 33 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Those numbers were impressive and make him a very intriguing trade target. Of course, the Vikings may not end up looking to trade him, but if they do the Broncos should be interested.

One suggested trade for Cousins would send the underrated quarterback to Denver in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick and a 2022 seventh-round pick. Would the Broncos be willing to give up that much value for Cousins?

Quite simply, the Broncos should be willing to part with a first-round pick for a legitimate franchise quarterback. Cousins may not be the guy that everyone wants, but he could be the guy to lead Denver back to serious postseason contention. The defense will need to be improved as well, but they still have talent there.

At 33 years of age, Cousins still has some good football left ahead of him. He is entering the end of his prime, but the Broncos would still get three or four years of prime football. That is well worth a first-round pick if Denver believes they can build a competitive roster around him in that time frame.

It’s an interesting idea, to say the least. Should the Vikings be interested in making some changes, the Broncos should show some level of interest. If they can avoid giving up a first-round pick and send a second-round pick instead, it would be a no-brainer trade for Denver.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding the Broncos this coming offseason. Denver needs to upgrade the quarterback position and there are quite a few avenues to try to do just that. Making a trade for Kirk Cousins is absolutely one of those avenues.
