The Denver Broncos are looking ahead at the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft with a few needs to focus on filling. John Elway is always looking to make moves that will take the team back into contention, and there could be one move he needs to make in the draft.
One of the main needs for the Broncos this year in the draft will be finding an elite playmaking wide receiver. Henry Ruggs III is viewed as the best playmaker at the position and trading up for him could be an option.
NFL.com certainly thinks the Broncos should trade up for Ruggs. They have Denver trading up to the No. 8 overall pick with the Arizona Cardinals in order to bring the Alabama speedster on board.
General manager John Elway must give Drew Lock as many weapons as possible. Swapping Pick No. 15 and a couple of Day 2 picks this year to grab their top wideout target (Ruggs, CeeDee Lamb or Jerry Jeudy all have a case to be the first WR drafted, but we’ll go with Ruggs here) gives them their best shot to become a legitimate contender in the AFC.
Ruggs to the Broncos would change everything about their offense. He would be able to take the top off of opposing defenses and make plays in the open field. Couple him with Courtland Sutton and the Broncos would have a lethal duo for Drew Lock.
Last season with the Crimson Tide, Ruggs ended up catching 40 passes for 746 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 19.1 yards per reception, showing off his ability to make big plays.
Denver is only a piece or two away from contending for a playoff spot. Adding Ruggs would help them towards that goal in a big way.
Moving up from No. 15 to No. 8 likely wouldn’t cost a ton. The reward that they would get from adding Ruggs, would be well worth the price. The Broncos should absolutely consider this option.
Expect to hear quite a few rumors and rumblings as the NFL Draft continues drawing closer. The Broncos and Ruggs seem like a perfect fit and Elway should consider aggressively trading up for him.
