1. Head Coach

The No. 1 spot on this list is pretty obvious. To say Jason Garrett overstayed his welcome as head coach in Dallas is an under statement. Garrett took over as head coach in 2010 and went 5-3 after Wade Phillips was let go. He stayed on and went 8-8 over the next three years.

With Garrett on the sideline, the Cowboys finished above .500 four times and finished exactly 8-8 four times. Dallas made the playoffs just three times during Garrett’s tenure, going 2-3 in the postseason. Everyone knows that Garrett should not have lasted this long but Jerry Jones enjoyed having a puppet on the sideline so he could run the show from the front office. Jones finally grew tired of being average and decided to bring in a real head coach.

Enter Mike McCarthy. The year that Garrett took over as head coach in Dallas, McCarthy was off winning a Super Bowl in Green Bay. If there was one thing needed to take Dallas to the next level, it was a head coach. McCarthy is the perfect man for the job given that he has been there before.

With a revamped defensive line, strong wide receiver additions, and a new head coach, the Cowboys could be in for a big 2020 season. The expectations will be as high as ever so now it is up to the team to reach them on the field.
