
The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a season that started with lofty expectations but ended in disappointment. An 8-8 record proved to not be enough to win the NFC East, or to make the playoffs as a Wild Card either.
There is reason for optimism surrounding the Cowboys heading into the 2020 season. They made key changes, perhaps none more important than swapping out Jason Garrett as head coach in favor of former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.
While the Cowboys didn’t end up getting a long-term deal done with Dak Prescott, they had a successful offseason. Dallas ended up having one of the more impressive collections of talent from the 2020 NFL Draft headlined by selections of CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, and Neville Gallimore.
Not all of the focus should be placed on free agency signings and early round draft picks, though. Each season, it’s important for teams to experience progress in player development, or benefit from receiving surprisingly impactful results from breakout players.
