This option seems like a long shot but anything is possible. Sean Lee and the Cowboys agreed to a one-year deal worth $4.5 million in 2020. The 33-year old linebacker has been with Dallas since 2010.

Lee has struggled with injuries during his career in the NFL. In 2019, he played all 16 games for the first time in his career. He signed for $4.5 million and $3.5 million of it could be saved if he is released or traded. Lee’s roster bonuses make up $1.5 million of the deal.

The Cowboys has a lot of money locked up in Jaylon Smith. On the other side, Leighton Vander Esch has looked like the real deal and will eventually be given a big contract. Having Lee on the roster gives the Cowboys a player with great experience and leadership. It also provides depth at the linebacker position.

This move is a low risk one. The Cowboys are set at linebacker and having Lee on the roster is a bonus. If they decide to part ways, they could save a little money and still be comfortable in the middle of the defense.
