The Dallas Cowboys have benefited significantly from the impact Jason Witten has provided at tight end for much of the last decade. During the upcoming season, they will need to rely on Blake Jarwin to take a step forward in his development.
After appearing in three snaps as a rookie, Jarwin received a larger role appearing in 36 percent of the Cowboys’ offensive snaps in 2018 and 39 percent in 2019. He is set to face his first opportunity receiving over a 40 percent snap count this season.
Simply put, Jarwin wasn’t viewed as being ready yet for a full-time starting role as a second-year player when Witten was in the broadcast booth. Then a potentially expanded role was put on hold when the Cowboys legend made his return to playing in the NFL.
During his previous two seasons, Jarwin has combined for 77 targets, 58 receptions, 672 yards, and six touchdowns. He achieved these results with an efficient 75.3 percent catch rate but the volume just wasn’t enough to put up big numbers.
With that being said, let’s take a look at why Cowboys tight end Blake Jarwin is headed for a breakout season following Jason Witten’s departure.
