Why Blake Jarwin is Primed for Breakout Campaign
While the role Blake Jarwin has played for the Dallas Cowboys through the first three seasons of his career hasn’t been extensive, he has shown plenty of flashes. The 2020 season will be his first opportunity to display he’s capable of achieving more.
Marcus Mosher of Locked On Cowboys highlighted how effective Dak Prescott has been when targeting Jarwin since 2016. The duo has averaged 9.55 adjusted yards per attempt and that trails only Amari Cooper (10.42) while topping Michael Gallup (9.29) and Randall Cobb (9.07).
Greater volume production would be a natural consequence of simply receiving a larger role for Jarwin, or any player for that matter. There are additional contexts to consider that could further help the Cowboys tight end in key areas.
Despite a change at head coach, there is continuity when it comes to play-calling with Kellen Moore remaining at offensive coordinator. The 2019 season was his first in such a role and it’s difficult to foresee him not improving, which helps the offense as a whole.
The Cowboys already had two high-level receivers in Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup prior to the start of the offseason. They added another into the mix by selecting former Oklahoma standout CeeDee Lamb in the first-round.
With Lamb now in the mix in addition to having Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield, opposing teams will often have to handle Jarwin as an afterthought. Overall, he will face ideal conditions to take advantage as a reaction to the way defenses are playing the Cowboys.
