This year’s draft class is very deep at the wide receiver position. There are anywhere from five to seven prospects that could go in the first round of the draft based on some of the mock drafts that have been released. One of the wide receivers that are looking to break into the first round is Treylon Burks out of Arkansas and it seems both the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be potential landing spots.

The former Razorback was excellent in 2021, catching 66 passes for 1,104 yards and 11 touchdowns. He possesses the size to become a legitimate No. 1 receiver in the NFL, standing 6’3” and weighing 225 pounds. There isn’t a prospect in this year’s draft class that can match his combination of size, speed and athleticism.

His testing at the combine left something to be desired, but the game tape doesn’t lie. Burks has everything you want in a wide receiver and he can line up anywhere in the formation, finding success regardless of alignment.

Right now, Burks is projected to go in the back third of the 2022 NFL Draft. One of the teams who are already finding success on the field could be getting a steal if they call his name late in the first round.

There are a lot of teams that made the postseason this past season looking to add wide receivers to the mix. The Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs are natural landing spots in mock drafts for him, but according to PFF, two more teams could be emerging; the Cowboys and Buccaneers.

The Cowboys had to trade Amari Cooper as a cap casualty and lost Cedrick Wilson in free agency to the Miami Dolphins. They could certainly use a little more depth at wide receiver behind CeeDee Lamb, especially with Michael Gallup potentially sidelined to begin the season.

The Buccaneers will also look a little different at wide receiver in 2022. Antonio Brown was released near the end of the season, but Chris Godwin will be returning to the team after signing a 3-year, $60 million deal. They still have Mike Evans in the fold as well, so adding a wide receiver with their first-round pick would be surprising, to say the least.

There is certainly a chance that when the Cowboys come on the clock at No. 24 and the Buccaneers are on the clock at No. 27 that Burks will be on the board. But, with more pressing needs elsewhere on the roster, they will likely go in a different direction with their first-round pick.
