The Dallas Cowboys made a move signing a wide receiver this week, but it was not one that many people saw coming. Their pursuit of Odell Beckham Jr. has been well publicized, but he wasn’t the pass catcher that was brought in. Instead, it was veteran T.Y. Hilton joining the team.

Hilton has played this season after spending the first 10 years of his career with the Indianapolis Colts. He was patiently waiting for the right opportunity and has now found it in Dallas. While Hilton may no longer be the go-to Pro Bowler that he was for the majority of his tenure with the Colts, he showcased last season that he still had something left in the tank.

Hilton averaged 14.4 yards per reception last season, his highest mark since 2018, as he still has some ability to get behind a defense for a big play. Injuries have been the thing hampering him the most as he appeared in only nine games last season and 10 in 2019.

Alas, it isn’t necessarily the production that the Cowboys may have brought Hilton in for. His veteran experience is something they will greatly benefit from and in his short amount of time with the organization, that is already being felt.

CeeDee Lamb, the team’s new No. 1 receiver this season, recently spoke about the impact that Hilton is having on the team. Lamb is doing his part to get his new teammate acclimated and said that Hilton is serving as a mentor for the younger guys in the position group.

“Today, I talked to him quite a bit more than I did [in his first practice],” Lamb said, via the team’s website. “I feel like he has to get more comfortable here and I let him know I’m available for anything he has questions about. It’s him helping me and me helping him, in a sense. Just critiquing me. . . . He’s seen the game for a while, so anything he says as far as route running or a release, anything is a positive — especially coming from him.”

It sounds like Lamb and Hilton are already hitting it off, which is great news for the Cowboys. They could certainly use another receiving threat to help take pressure off of Lamb and Michael Gallup as there isn’t much experienced talent behind them on the depth chart.

Hopefully, TY Hilton will be able to suit up this coming week against the Philadelphia Eagles. Even if he isn’t active and on the field, you can be sure that he will help his new team get any edge possible against a familiar opponent as he is already having a positive impact on the roster.
