The Dallas Cowboys have some areas of need to address during the 2023 offseason. A lot of attention has been given to the offense, where Dak Prescott struggled with turnovers in 2022. They could certainly use more weapons on that side of the ball, but arguably the team’s biggest need is cornerback.
Dallas has a star in Trevon Diggs patrolling one side of the field, but opposite of him, they could use some help. Daron Bland was the only other cornerback to perform well in 2022 after Jourdan Lewis went down with an injury.
In need of some depth and possibly another starter opposite of Diggs, plenty of free agency and draft mocks have the Cowboys looking to address the secondary. In a mock draft by Shane Hallam of NFL Draft Countdown, he has Dallas doing exactly that.
With the 26th pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Hallam has the Cowboys selecting cornerback Kelee Ringo out of Georgia. He possesses unteachable traits, which will draw a lot of teams to him.
Standing 6’2” and weighing 210 pounds, Ringo combines elite size with elite athleticism to get the job done. He was a state title holder in the 100- and 200-meter dash in high school, showcasing just how explosive of an athlete he is.
At his size, it should be no surprise that Ringo uses his physicality to his advantage in pass coverage and run support. All of the tools are there for the former Bulldog to become an upper-echelon cornerback in the NFL.
Cleaning up his technique will help him reach that level. He was penalized nine times in 2022 according to NFL.com’s combine prospect scouting report, which has to be cleaned up. Ringo is too physically gifted to have to resort to committing penalties that frequently.
But, overall, the skills are there for Ringo to become a plus starter in the NFL down the line. The Cowboys would benefit greatly from adding him to their secondary as a long-term pairing with Diggs that could develop into the best cornerback duo in the league.
