Offensive Line

The starting offensive line of the Dallas Cowboys looks like this: Tyron Smith (left tackle), Connor Williams (left guard), Joe Looney (center), Zack Martin (right guard) and La’el Collins (right tackle).

The starting five doesn’t have Travis Frederick at center anymore due to his retirement, but overall the Dallas Cowboys must be pleased with the players at this position, as they have solid pass protection. With Ezekiel Elliott as their running back, the run blocking of the Cowboys is one of the very best in the league.

When he’s healthy, Smith is one of the very best left tackles in football (played 882 snaps last season), and that will still be the case this season. Smith allowed just one sack a season ago.

Williams is starting his third year in the NFL after being a second-round pick in 2018. He’s coming off a season where he allowed just one sack in 727 snaps played.

This left side of the Cowboys offensive line will be fine, and it should be safe to say the duo of Smith and Williams will not allow more than the two sacks they did last season because they are two very talented players who are at different points in their career as well.

The center position is the toughest prediction to make this season because of the value and success Frederick had before his injury issues began to slow down his career. Looney is a serviceable center for the Cowboys, but even though he has time on the Cowboys offensive line, don’t be surprised to see him under the microscope this season as he played 99 snaps last year.

The right side of the offensive line with Martin and Collins is very exciting and will challenge Smith and Williams as to who has the best side of the line this season. Both players are very good at what they do, with Martin allowing no sacks last season in 1,114 snaps played in 2019, while Collins allowed just two snaps in 1,000 snaps.

The prediction for this offensive line if these five stay on the field is they will allow fewer than eight sacks as a unit, and once again, clear a path for a 1,000-yard rusher.
