What to Expect from Blake Jarwin in 2020

The Dallas Cowboys’ primary tight end role is widely expected to go to Blake Jarwin during the upcoming season. It will be a prime opportunity to showcase his abilities while shouldering the most responsibility he ever has during his NFL career.

ESPN recently released a league-wide projections for every offensive player in the league for the 2020 season. Jarwin is estimated to record 61 targets, 43 receptions, 488 yards, and four touchdowns. He ranks No. 21 in projected fantasy football scoring compared to the rest of the NFL’s tight ends.

The increase in Jarwin’s production isn’t expected to be drastic based on ESPN’s projection. That’s mostly due to the fact that the Cowboys are expected to continue to feature the wide receiver position in their offense, especially after using a first-round pick on CeeDee Lamb.

The dynamic Cowboys’ offense will need Jarwin to serve as a safety blanket for Dak Prescott when options like Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and Lamb do not get the ball. With Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield, the circumstances are as close to perfect for Jarwin as it could get.

Teams will be focused on slowing down essentially every other member of the Cowboys’ offense before they are worried about Jarwin doing damage. If he has potential to reach a few steps forward in his contributions, it will need to come to fruitin in 2020 or it simply isn’t a reality.
