The New York Jets sent shockwaves through the NFL by sending All-Pro safety Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks. One of the teams in the mix before the deal was completed was the Dallas Cowboys.
It took the Seahawks a considerable package in order to get a deal done for Adams. The Jets received a first round pick in 2021 and 2022, a 2021 third-round selection, and Bradley McDougald in exchange for Adams and a 2022 fourth-round pick.
The asking price the Jets held for Adams appears to have firmly remained since they were discussing potential deals with teams prior to the 2019 mid-season trade deadline. They were asking for a ‘shade under’ what the Jacksonville Jaguars netted in the Jalen Ramsey trade.
When the Cowboys did attempt to trade for Adams in October, the Jets had asked for a first-round pick along with two second-rounders. It’s unclear what year that first-rounder would have been, but regardless, it likely would have taken them out of position for CeeDee Lamb.
It proved to be the right move for the Jets to wait until the offseason to move Adams. Even despite the headlines he has made regarding his dissatisfaction with the organization and desire for a new contract, New York continued to hold strong and made the most of it.
With that being said, here are three reasons why the Cowboys were right to not pull off a trade for Jamal Adams.
