Dak Has Never Had An Offense Like This
Dak Prescott is lucky, his Dallas Cowboys have come a long way from the days of 2016.
Prescott’s rookie season, in a vacuum was about as impressive as they come. But the Cowboys’ quarterback had to earn that Pro Bowl appearance and Offensive Rookie of The Year honor the hard way, with players like Cole Beasley and a past-his-prime Jason Witten finishing as his two leading receivers in 2016.
Look around the Dallas skill groups now though, and things don’t quite look the same as they did four years ago. Prescott now has a bonafide WR1 in Amari Cooper, one of the best secondary options in Michael Gallup, and now, the rookie talents of CeeDee Lamb will be joining the receiver group to give the Cowboys what might be the most talented pass-catching corps in the NFL.
Also helping Prescott as he enters year five as a pro, coming off what might have been the best season of his NFL career, will be the returning talents of All-Pro running back Ezekiel Elliott and the continued emergence of Kellen Moore– Dallas’ offensive coordinator who took over an offense ranked 22nd in points per game the year before he arrived and turned them into an elite unit that ranked sixth in that metric in 2019.
Losing Travis Frederick on the offensive line will hurt, but the Cowboys have enough talent along the line, and everywhere else on their offense to make up for it. Prescott has never had this level of talent surrounding him on offense, not in college or at the professional level. If he can continue to build on his Pro Bowl season in 2019, he could be dangerous in 2020.
