Dallas Cowboys: 5 Reasons They Will Win the NFC East

Revamped Offensive Line

You don’t have to be a Cowboys fan to know what the biggest strength of the team is. The Cowboys’ offensive line is one of the most dominant groups in football, headlined with three all-pros in Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, and Travis Frederick.

Last year we saw this unit struggle once Tyron Smith went down with injury. Smith went down with a groin injury in Week 10 of the season against the Atlanta Falcons and was replaced by backup Chaz Green. In that game, Green gave up six sacks to Falcons defensive end Adrian Clayborn. The game was a disaster for the Cowboys and seemed to take a toll on Prescott. After this game, the Cowboys knew they needed some extra help on the offensive line, so they made that a priority going into the offseason.

Going into the offseason there were two key positions to address on the offensive line. A starting left guard and an insurance policy at tackle in case Smith gets hurt again. The Cowboys addressed the left guard issue by drafting local product Connor Williams.

Williams grew up in the DFW area playing high school football at Coppell, and then attended the University of Texas. Going into the NFL Draft, many considered Williams as a first round talent, but he slipped to the Cowboys in Round 2. He played tackle at Texas, but he has moved to guard and will likely be the starting left guard for the Cowboys.

With Williams filling the guard spot for the Cowboys, the other spot they needed to address was a backup for Smith, and the Cowboys did that by signing former Patriot Cameron Fleming. Fleming was a starter for the New England Patriots and recently started in Super Bowl 53 for them. Fleming is a reliable backup who will provide a veteran presence, with some much-needed playoff experience.
