After a disappointing postseason loss, the Dallas Cowboys are now turning their attention towards the upcoming NFL Draft.

With several key players set to hit free agency, the draft becomes crucial for the Cowboys to address their roster needs and bolster their depth in various positions.

Here, we explore five potential targets that the Cowboys could focus on in the NFL Draft.

Blake Corum, Running Back

Following a disappointing season and with Tony Pollard hitting free agency, the Cowboys are likely to turn their attention to the running back position in the draft. Their struggles in the red zone and running the football in 2023 were evident.

Blake Corum, with a successful career at Michigan, rushing for 3,737 yards and 58 touchdowns over four seasons, could be the answer. Considering the Cowboys’ history of drafting Michigan players, Corum becomes a compelling option to solidify the team’s backfield.

Sedrick Van Pran, Center

With star players like CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and Dak Prescott up for contract extensions in 2024, the Cowboys might have to make some tough decisions. One of these could involve center Tyler Biadasz, who has been a consistent contributor to the offensive line since his 2020 draft selection.

To address this potential gap, the Cowboys could opt to draft Tyler Biadasz’s replacement in the second round, targeting Sedrick Van Pran out of Georgia. Van Pran’s strong run-blocking skills would be vital in establishing the running game, and he would complement Tyler Smith and Zack Martin, forming one of the most dominant interior offensive lines in the NFL.

McKinley Jackson, Defensive Tackle

The Cowboys have struggled with their run defense for several seasons, and in 2023, they brought in Mazi Smith to address this issue. However, Smith’s performance did not meet expectations, and he found himself buried in the depth chart.

With Johnathan Hankins and Neville Gallimore entering free agency, the Cowboys could consider adding McKinley Jackson to pair with Smith as formidable run-stoppers on the defensive line. Jackson’s explosiveness as a run defender and his ability to make plays across the field make him a valuable option to bolster the Cowboys’ defensive line, addressing one of their significant weaknesses.

Amarius Mims, Offensive Tackle

With the possibility of Tyron Smith playing his last game in a Cowboys uniform, Amarius Mims emerges as a potential replacement. Mims, standing at an imposing 6’7″ and weighing 340 pounds, offers excellent pass protection for Dak Prescott and the pass-heavy Cowboys offense. He also provides versatility by being capable of playing both tackle positions.

While Mims is relatively raw with only eight career starts, the Cowboys have a track record of developing offensive linemen. Similar to the quick progress of Tyler Smith, Mims could potentially become the Cowboys’ future Left Tackle.

Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Linebacker

In case the Cowboys don’t select Amarius Mims in the first round, they could consider Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Pairing Trotter with DeMarvion Overshown and Marquise Bell would create a formidable linebacking corps for the Cowboys. Trotter’s high motor and quickness make him an ideal fit for the Cowboys’ defense.

Despite not possessing the ideal linebacker size, Trotter compensates with his speed and tackling ability. Given the uncertainty surrounding Leighton Vander Esch’s future, linebacker remains a position of need, and if Trotter is available in the first round, the Cowboys should seriously consider him to bolster the heart of their defense.
