Dallas Cowboys Projected To Lose Huge Offensive Piece

After falling short once again in the playoffs, the Dallas Cowboys are motivated to win a Super Bowl in the 2024-25 NFL season. Jerry Jones decided to bring back head coach Mike McCarthy and is going all-in on next season. With that being the case, the offseason will be pivotal to their potential success or lack thereof.

Looking ahead at the offseason, the Cowboys have quite a few major decisions that they’ll have to make. One of those decision will be what to do with running back Tony Pollard.

Pollard is set to hit the free agency market this offseason. While the Cowboys could opt to bring him back, there are many that believe Dallas would prefer to move on and find either a better back or a cheaper back.

Assuming the Cowboys do move on from Pollard, there will be quite a few teams interested in signing him.

CBS Sports has projected that Pollard will leave the Cowboys and join another NFC contender. They have him landing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.

“Statistically, Pollard remained a passable starter for Dallas in 2023, but his efficiency has decreased in recent years. Remarkably, he’s still just 26. It wouldn’t be a shock to see the Cowboys finally pivot to a cheaper rotation. Projected team: Buccaneers.”

Tampa Bay makes a ton of sense as a potential Pollard suitor. They need a better running game and Pollard is one of the best that will be available. He’s also young and could fit with the Buccaneers long-term.

During the 2023 season with the Dallas Cowboys, Pollard ended up carrying the football 252 times for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 55 passes for 311 yards.

Those numbers would look very good in the Buccaneers’ backfield. If they opt to get aggressive in free agency to add to their offense, Pollard could be a perfect fit.

For the Cowboys, the loss would let them pivot to a new running back. Perhaps they could sign an upgrade in Derrick Henry? Or, they could opt to turn to the 2024 NFL Draft as well.
