Could the Las Vegas Raiders potentially move star wide receiver Davante Adams ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline?
As of right now, it seems like an unthinkable proposition. After all, the Raiders landed Adams in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers as recently as March 2022 and handed him a five-year, $140 million contract extension in the wake of the deal.
However, the Raiders certainly do not look like legitimate contenders, as evidenced by their 38-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills this past weekend.
Las Vegas did top the Denver Broncos in Week 1, but that is not exactly saying much.
If the Raiders go into a tailspin over the next several weeks, the possibility of them trading Adams becomes much more realistic.
Should Las Vegas place Adams on the trade block, you can bet that the Dallas Cowboys will be one of the first teams to explore a deal.
The Cowboys, who are clearly in Super Bowl contention, could make the Raiders a significant offer consisting of a 2024 first-round draft pick as well as a second-rounder. Imagine putting Adams alongside of CeeDee Lamb.
Adams is already 30 years old, so he may not wish to be a part of a potential teardown in Las Vegas (or part of an offense that features Jimmy Garoppolo throwing the football).
The Fresno State product was originally selected by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft and spent the first eight seasons of his career in Green Bay, making five straight trips to the Pro Bowl as well as earning a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections between 2017 and 2021.
Adams continued his dominance in his first season with the Raiders, hauling in 100 receptions for 1,516 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns. That was with Derek Carr under center.
If Las Vegas doesn’t appear to be going anywhere this year, it could ultimately attempt to shed Davante Adams’ salary and acquire some significant draft capital in return.
