Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has drawn the ire of his fan base this season, as he has been pretty disappointing in the early stages of 2023. Meanwhile, Minnesota Vikings signal-caller Kirk Cousins has been lighting it up.
Could the Cowboys and Vikings swap quarterbacks ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline?
Obviously, this isn’t going to happen, but Jonathan Adams of Heavy.com proposed the idea this week, citing how many Dallas fans are fed up with Prescott and want him to be dealt.
Of course, Cousins has been the subject of trade speculation all season long, as the Vikings got off to an 0-3 start and appeared headed nowhere fast. With Cousins being 35 years old and set to hit free agency this offseason, many felt it would be best for Minnesota to move Cousins now and recoup significant value for him before potentially allowing him to walk in the spring.
However, trading Cousins was never really all that realistic, as a lot of boxes would have to be checked, and Cousins would have the ability to shoot down any deal anyway because of his no-trade clause.
Plus, the Vikings have risen from the dead in recent weeks, winning three of their last four games to improve to 3-4 and amazingly insert themselves back into the NFC playoff picture.
And you know what? Prescott has a no-trade clause, as well, and his monster contract also makes him incredibly difficult to move.
Prescott hasn’t been great thus far in 2023, throwing for 1,333 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 69.5 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 91.
Those numbers don’t look bad, but anyone who has watched Dak Prescott this season can tell he is not the same quarterback from several years ago. He also struggled mightily in 2022, leading the league with 15 picks in spite of playing in just 12 games.
Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins is pacing the NFL in both completions (193) and passing touchdowns (16) this season, posting a passer rating of 101.7 in the process.
