David Njoku named a potential trade target for the Packers

The Green Bay Packers are heading into the offseason knowing that they are a move or two away from a Super Bowl appearance. After seeing Aaron Rodgers win the MVP award and play at an extremely high level, finding him more weapons should be a priority. One potential target could be Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku.

FanSided listed Njoku as a potential trade target for the Packers this offseason. He was also mentioned as a potential target for Green Bay last offseason.

Njoku is a very talented and athletic tight end, who simply doesn’t have a role with the Browns. Austin Hooper was signed in free agency last offseason and Harrison Bryant was taken in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Browns would be wise to move him this offseason.

In 2020 with the Browns, Njoku saw a decreased role. He ended up catching just 19 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns. Back in 2018, however, he racked up 56 receptions for 639 yards and four touchdowns.

There is no doubt that Njoku can be a major impact player. He simply needs the right role with the right time. Perhaps the Packers could be that team.

Currently, the Packers are happy with the production they received from Robert Tonyan at the tight end position. He caught 52 passes for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. But, a two tight end tandem of Tonyan and Njoku could be lethal.

Depending on the price tag the Browns have for David Njoku, this could be an ideal fit for the Packers. They would still need to bring in some help at wide receiver, but Njoku could be a piece that thrives in Matt LaFleur’s offense.

Expect to hear a lot of rumors surrounding the Packers this offseason. They may not end up making a major trade for a tight end, but if they do, Njoku would make a lot of sense.
