Denver Broncos: 3 Keys to Victory in Week 2 vs. Oakland Raiders

USA TODAY Sports

Keep a Balanced Attack

In Week 1, the Broncos did a phenomenal job balancing their offensive attack. The Broncos attempted 39 passes and ran the ball 32 times. You can’t get much more balanced in a league that’s all about throwing the ball as much as possible.

The Broncos looked like they found their dynamic duo of RBs in Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay. Freeman will likely be the one who gets the bulk of the carries, while Lindsay will be the change of pace back. In Week 1 though, both got 15 carries while Lindsay also tacked on two receptions and a touchdown in the passing game.

I expect that to slightly change, as Freeman is more of a bruising back. It is telling that Freeman wasn’t targeted at all through the air, showing that Lindsay will be in during passing situations. The balanced and effective attack by the Broncos in Week 1 helped lead them to a win.

The Broncos rushing attack in Week 1 netted them 146 yards on 32 attempts (4.6 yards per carry). It will go a long way if the Broncos can consistently get that sort of production out of their backfield. Their passing game was productive as well, with Keenum throwing for 329 yards and three touchdowns.

If the Broncos want to force their rivals in the Raiders to start their season 0-2, they’ll need to keep their offense as balanced as can be.
