Protecting Case Keenum from Houston’s Vaunted Defense

Another key to the Broncos’ offense having success is protecting Case Keenum from the likes of Texans defensive linemen J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney. Unfortunately, that will be much easier said than done.

The 29-year-old Watt is enjoying a career renaissance in 2018 after playing in just eight of 32 games over the past two seasons. He enters Week 9 tied for second in the NFL with eight sacks.

As for Clowney, he has played in seven of eight games this season and has 4.5 sacks of his own. That includes multi-sack contests in wins over the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars in Weeks 4 and 7, respectively.

Limiting the amount of pressure Watt, Clowney and the rest of the Texans’ front seven get on Keenum will a huge factor for the Broncos on Sunday. Otherwise, Keenum will likely continue to struggle with turnovers against a Houston defense that is tied for seventh in takeaways with 14 (seven interceptions, seven fumble recoveries).
